Buzz Interview: Face-to-face with the worshipper Collen Maluleke

Gandzelo is actually a continuation from my latest album Face 2 Face

You know him from the worship song Face 2 Face and he has recently announced a new EP dropping soon titled: Gandzelo. Ladies and gentlemen, Collen Maluleke…

You are known by many as Colleen Maluleke, what is your Tsonga name and what does it mean?

I don’t have a Tsonga name all my siblings do except for me

Briefly tell us about your upbringing

I’m from Soweto born and raised. The 1st born with a younger sister and brother. Grew up in meadowlands, Protea Glen and Snakepark. Went to a couple of primary schools Both public and private schools.

As a kid, what were your aspirations. And what are your aspirations today?

I wanted to be lawyer growing up. Even went to varsity to study LLB and later dropped out with just 1 year left. Right now my aspirations are more towards ministry and business I believe so much in living a legacy for the next generation

And the music bug, how did it bite you?

I was truly led by God to do what I do. Because I’m the first in my family to do what I do, I never did it much as a kid except for being in the youth choir when I got born again. I never thought much about it let alone pursue it as a career.

What has been the highlight of your music career?

Getting to Minister with Dr Juanita Bynum I believe there was a huge impartation that took place and my life has never been the same ever since.

You have a new project coming soon, tell us about it

Yes Gandzelo EP. this is actually a continuation from my latest album Face 2 Face. Gandzelo has 2 songs that I was originally meant to release on the Face 2 Face project but never had the chance to finish the songs. It’s Dropping on the 9th of October 2020. It’s a digital release.

How is Gandzelo different to the loved by fans Face2Face?

he journey continues. The Gandzelo Medley is actually a compilation of original and some old traditional Tsonga songs that I grew up singing in church, it’s very different from what I usually do.

Who did you work this on this project

Well I worked with Bheki Bazonke Mthembu as my co-producer and Music Director. The project also features Bobo Jay Nzima on Gandzelo Medley as well as Lebohang Kgapola on Identity. Backing vocalists included Precious Luthuli, Jessica Laura Marshall and Bobo Jay Nzima. My music team included Siyabonga Hlengethwa on Bass, Ntokozo Mdluli on Drums. Iyke M Abu on Lead Guitar as well as Luke Van Der Merwe on Acoustic Guitars.

When can we expect a music video from the EP?

I’m hoping we can get it done by end of October. GospelBuzzers will surely know first.

The industry is opening up again, where do we catch you live?

Well we are still planning some intimate Worship Sessions which we started right before the lockdown. There’s a number of bookings coming up as well. I share all on my social media platforms, so you should follow me.
