Driven by an an ever burning passion for Christ, Molweni Youth Praise is brought closer to God by Gospel music and this is reflected in their worship and praise.
Molweni Youth Praise is a Gospel music group from Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban-Hillcrest in a place called Molweni. The group was formed in 2008 following the Back to God Crusade that led to many young souls being saved. This was a life changing event for many as today Molweni Youth Praise strives to preach the gospel of Christ through worship and praise inspired music.
The revelation they have as a group is to advance the kingdom of God through worship and singing by discovering, mentoring worshipers to their full potential and to empower the youth to offer anointed and skilful praise. Being channeled by Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, the group takes inspiration from the music ministries of Joyous Celebration, Tshwane Gospel Choir, Soweto Gospel Choir, Spirit of Praise, Ethekwini Gospel Choir, Fortress Torrential Praise and abroad Richard Smallwood, Donald Lawrence and Kirk Franklin.
Molweni Youth Praise has blazed a remarkable trail in entertainment industry, showcasing their work in multitude of community events, churches, weddings, private parties and regular regional appearances including performing at the prestigious Durban Playhouse. The group has shared the stage with Hlengiwe Buthelezi, Psalms and Lwazi Khuzwayo to mention a few.
MYP community involvements
MYP Open Mic Sessions: Started in 2014, this is a talent recognition initiative through ‘Open Mic Sessions‘. On the sessions, the community is invited to participate by singing in a hall where a microphone is passed around the venue whilst the MYP Choir and Band backs by the singer. The free sessions have aided in raw talent identification and harnessing in the region.
MYP Cares: This is the charity arm of YMP where Molweni Youth Praise reaches out to needy members of the community. YMP recently visited Lily Of The Valley children’s home to celebrate Christmas Day with the kids and offer them gifts.
MYP Church Tours: Established in 2017, this initiative sees the Molweni Youth Praise choir visiting churches in the region to minister in song. This zero-rated initiative has brought many benefits including lifting the standard of worship in local churches and unity among church leaders.
MYP Music Business Academy: Established in 2018, this initiative targeted at teenagers and young adults sees the Molweni Youth Praise teaching and mentoring participants on the music business basics.
